Allendale, located in Bergen County NJ and
formed as a borough in 1894, is a quaint
community of tree lined streets, a relaxing
downtown atmosphere of shops and eateries,
sports activity, and many other activities for
its residents and visitors. Activities include
Crestwood Lake Park, a 71 acre town
facility that includes 3 beaches, a lake, and a
pavilion. The nature preserve "Celery
Farm" is also located in Allendale.
The first real estate
subdivision of Allendale was started around 1868
by Herman Tallman and Harvey Sherwood. This new
subdivision included Park Avenue, Mallinson
Street and First Street. Another subdivision was
also created about the same time by Daniel
Anthony. This tract of land included
approximately 100 acres around Brookside and
Allendale avenues.
